Bud Abbott and Lou Costello first paired up in 1935, working in burlesque and eventually getting a break on radio, appearing on The Kate Smith Hour in 1938. Two years later they signed a film contract with Universal and would go on to make a total of 30 films over the next five years. In 1951 they moved on to television, hosting the Colgate Comedy Hour before landing their own show.
