Call of Duty World at War keert weer terug naar de tweede wereld oorlog. Maar de game is anders dan de cliche WWII games die we al vaker hebben gezien. Het spel speelt zich namelijk af in het verre oosten.

Je vecht dit keer tegen de Japanners in plaats van de Duitsers, en daarbij zal je hele andere tactieken moeten gaan gebruiken dan je gewend bent. Treyarch heeft het gedrag van de tegenstanders namelijk aangepast aan de manier van vechten van de Japanners in de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

World at War is het vijfde deel uit de Call Of Duty-serie en keert terug naar de gebeurtenissen rondom de Tweede Wereldoorlog. De game speelt zich, in tegenstelling tot voorgaande delen, gedeeltelijk af in Oost-Azië en Rusland, waar je als soldaat te maken krijgt met een totaal andere manier van oorlogvoering.<br /><br />Treyarch heeft er alles aangedaan om datgene waar Call Of Duty bekend om staat, in ere te laten. De vertrouwde en gebalanceerde mix van sprinten, dekking zoeken en aanvallen is onveranderd. Maar de manier waarop vijanden reageren als ze onder een salvo worden bedolven is door de komst van de moedige Japanners, die bereid zijn te sterven voor hun land en keizer, enigszins veranderd. Zij zullen minder snel dekking zoeken wanneer ze geen munitie meer hebben of bijna het leven laten. In plaats daarvan komen ze op je afgerend met hun allerlaatste granaat om jou mee te nemen naar het hiernamaals….<br /><br />In de strijd tegen deze nieuwe vijand krijg je de beschikking over een groot wapenarsenaal, waaronder een spectaculaire vlammenwerper. In de Aziatische bossen en jungles schuilt immers op elke plek gevaar en de vlammenwerper geeft spelers de mogelijkheid bomen, struiken en ander gewas in vuur en vlam te zetten en zo de vijand uit te roken. Daarnaast kent World at War een reeks voertuigen om de dichtbegroeide omgevingen te doorkruisen en soldaten dekking te geven tegen de dreiging van hun tegenstanders.<br /><br />World at War bevat, net als zijn voorganger, uitgebreide online multiplayer-mogelijkheden, waarbij met zestien man in totaal gevochten kan worden. Nieuw is de mogelijkheid om met vier personen online in de coöperatieve modus te spelen.<br /><br />Call Of Duty World At War is een andere weerspiegeling van de Tweede Wereldoorlog dan we eerder zagen in de Call Of Duty reeks. Het is allemaal iets donkerder, grimmiger en rauwer. De gruwelen uit de oorlog worden op een realistischere manier gepresenteerd dan in de voorgaande games. De geweldige soundtrack draagt ook bij aan het beklemmende gevoel dat je bekruipt zodra je het spel hebt opgestart. Trek je kistjes aan en ga op oorlogspad in Call Of Duty World At War!
