De publicatie Prix de Rome 2017 presenteert het werk van vier getalenteerde jonge kunstenaars die door een internationale jury zijn geselecteerd voor de shortlist van de Prix de Rome Beeldende Kunst 2017. De genomineerden zijn Melanie Bonajo, Rana Hamadeh, Saskia Noor van Imhoff en Katarina Zdjelar. De jury is onder de indruk van de vernieuwende houding, de reflectie op de tijd waarin we leven en de gelaagdheid van het werk van de geselecteerde kunstenaars.
In de publicatie worden de oeuvres en het nieuwe werk van de vier shortlistkunstenaars belicht. Een van de auteurs, winnaar van de basisprijs bij de Prijs voor de Jonge Kunstkritiek 2016, is Julia Mullié. Met deze schrijfopdracht onderstreept de Prix de Rome tevens het belang van het stimuleren van een nieuwe generatie kunstcritici. De Prix de Rome is de oudste prijs in Nederland voor beeldend kunstenaars en architecten onder de 40 jaar. Het doel van de prijs is getalenteerde kunstenaars te traceren en hen te stimuleren zich verder te ontwikkelen en hun zichtbaarheid te vergroten. De winnaar ontvangt een bedrag van € 40,000 en een werkperiode in Rome. De Prix de Rome wordt georganiseerd door het Mondriaan Fonds.

The publication Prix de Rome 2017 presents the work of the four talented young artists that an international jury shortlisted for the Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2017. The nominees are Melanie Bonajo, Rana Hamadeh, Saskia Noor van Imhoff and Katarina Zdjelar. The jury was impressed by the selected artists' innovative attitude, their reflection on the present era and the layered structure of their work.
This publication highlights the oeuvres and the new work of the four shortlisted artists. One of the authors, the winner of the stimulation award connected to the Award for the Young Art Critic 2016, is Julia Mullié. With this commission the Prix de Rome also underlines the importance of encouraging a new generation of art critics. The Prix de Rome is the oldest prize for visual artists and architects below the age of 40 in the Netherlands. The purpose of the award is to identify talented artists and to encourage them to further develop and increase their visibility. The winning artist will receive 40.000 euros and a residency in Rome. The Prix de Rome is organized by the Mondriaan Fund.
