This extensive work contains no fewer than around one hundred and fifty instruments, either on human rights or relevant to human rights protection. He is also a part time Justice in the Court of Appeal, ¿s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. Van Kempen is furthermore Secretary-General of the International Penal and Penitentiary Foundation (IPPF). Apart from international and European human rights law he specializes in criminal law and criminal procedure law, and in criminal law developments in the European Union.
