Jij speelt de rol van Sora (met de stem van Haley Joel Osment, bekend van The Sixth Sense), een kleine jongen die naar het Disney-universum wordt meegevoerd. Dit universum wordt geteisterd door een horde schaduwbeesten genaamd The Heartless. Samen met hoftovenaar Donald en kapitein Goofy, die op zoek zijn naar de vermiste koning Mickey, gaat Sora op een reis die hem langs honderden Disney- en Final Fantasy-helden en -schurken voert. Kingdom Hearts is the first project from Squaresoft and Disney Interactive.
