Sunny Hills -Ltd-

Bij het verschijnen van het gelijknamige debuut van All We Are (2015) werd hun dromerige indie-dance sound omschreven als The Bee Gees on Diazepam. Met puike shows en sessies tijdens Eurosnic en opvolgende shows op festivals zoals London Calling zet de band in Nederland een goede live reputatie neer. Het trio uit Liverpool met internationale bezetting: een Ier, een Braziliaan en een Noorse, combineert uiterst dansbare pop met licht melancholische melodieën. Op het tweede album, Sunny Hills, komt All We Are met een steviger geluid. In de geest van de huidige tijd, die paralellen vertoont naar de het donkere tijdperk van Thatcher. Met de urgentie van de Engelse post-punk uit de jaren ’80.
Maar de band benadrukt dat het album ook hoop moet uitstralen. Getuige het verhaal achter de foto op de hoes:
“it shows an old house sandwiched between two large buildings under development. The woman who owned the house refused to sell to a number of developers including Donald Trump. She resisted for years while the developers even bought the space above the house. She finally won the case and stayed there for a further decade until her death. Before that, she watched Donald Trump’s casino fail and close its doors. There is a feeling of powerful resistance in this story that we relate to along with a real sense of defiance and eventual victory against a bigger power.”
