Dave en Wally beheren samen een krantenkiosk. Alles loopt op rolletjes totdat er een man vlak voor hun winkeltje wordt vermoord. Dan beginnen de problemen. Dave heeft niets gehoord, want hij is doof. Wally heeft niets gezien want hij is blind. Het enige wat Dave zich kan herinneren is een paar fraaie damesbenen, wally rook een wolk parfum. De politie verdenkt echter een moordduo, de een is blind, de ander is doof. Ze weten al snel uit de gevangenis te ontsnappen en gaan op zoek naar de mysterieuze vrouw. Daarbij worden ze achtervolgd door de hele New Yorkse politiemacht en de moordenaars. Een klopjacht met vele komische verwikkelingen begint..

Meet Wally and Dave. They're as opposite as two buddies can be. Wally (Richard Pryor) is brash, loud-mouthed and blind. Dave (Gene Wilder) is quiet, mild-mannered and deaf. Both of them are individual disaster zones. But together... they're even worse! When a murder takes place right under their noses, Wally and Dave are the only witnesses. The trouble is, Wally didn't see it and Dave didn't hear it, and all of a sudden they're both wanted for it! Suspected by the police and pursued by the real killers - the cool and calculated Eve (Joan Severance) and her fanatical henchman (Kevin Spacey) - Wally and Dave decide to take the law into their own hands. The results are hilarious! These guys are senseless, but they're certainly not stupid!
